Indian athletes encountered challenging results at the Paris Olympics on Monday, falling short in their bid for medals. In the skeet mixed team event, Maheshwari Chauhan and Anant Jeet Singh Naruka narrowly missed out on a podium finish, placing fourth with a score of 43. They were just one point behind China’s Yiting Jiang and Jianlin Lyu, who won the bronze with a score of 44.
Chauhan and Naruka had finished tied with another team in the qualification rounds, each scoring 146 out of 150, leading to a shoot-off to decide their final standing. Chauhan demonstrated impressive form with two flawless scores of 50/50 in her final rounds, while Naruka contributed with scores of 25, 23, and 24.
In badminton, Lakshya Sen, who aimed to become the first Indian male shuttler to win an Olympic medal, lost to Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia in the bronze medal match with scores of 21-13, 16-21, 11-21. Earlier, Sen was defeated by reigning champion Viktor Axelsen in the semifinals, losing despite holding a three-point lead in the first game and a 7-0 advantage in the second, ultimately falling 20-22, 14-21 in a 54-minute match.
India remains in pursuit of its first Olympic gold in badminton, with PV Sindhu having previously won silver and bronze, and Saina Nehwal earning bronze.
