New Delhi, Aug 10:      The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has deferred its ruling on Vinesh Phogat’s appeal until August 11, 2024. Phogat is challenging the revocation of her silver medal at the Olympics due to a weight limit violation where she exceeded the 50 kg limit by 100 grams.

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) announced that the Sole Arbitrator, Hon. Dr. Annabelle Bennett, will make a decision by 6:00 p.m. on August 11, with a detailed explanation to follow later. Phogat’s appeal, submitted on August 7, requests that she be awarded a joint silver medal with Cuban wrestler Yusneylis Guzman Lopez, who competed in the final after Phogat’s disqualification.

Phogat, 29, participated in the hearing remotely, which ended on Friday. The session included arguments from French lawyers representing Phogat, followed by presentations from the United World Wrestling (UWW) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The IOA was represented by senior advocates Harish Salve and Vidushpat Singhania.
