Seven Dead, Including Six Women, in Bihar Temple Stampede; 16 Injured

Jehanabad, Bihar:   A stampede at Baba Siddheshwar Nath Temple in Jehanabad district claimed the lives of seven people, including six women, and left 16 others injured. The incident occurred around 11:30 pm on Sunday, according to district officials.

The victims include Pyare Paswan (30), Nisha Devi (30), Punam Devi (30), Nisha Kumari (21), and Sushila Devi (64), with the identity of one woman still unknown. District Magistrate Alankrita Pandey confirmed the casualties and reported that security personnel acted swiftly to manage the chaos.

In response, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh for each deceased person’s family and directed that the injured receive top-notch medical care. Additional aid of Rs 20,000 will be provided for last rites, and Rs 50,000 will be given to each injured person.

The injured were initially treated in Mukundapur, with 10 discharged after first aid and six remaining in the hospital. Authorities are investigating the cause of the stampede, which may have started from a dispute between kanwariyas and flower vendors.

RJD leaders Lalu Prasad, Rabri Devi, and Tejashwi Yadav have expressed their sorrow over the incident.
