Tripura:    A teacher in Tripura’s Gomati district has died two days after being attacked by a mob who accused him of molesting a minor student. The incident occurred in Udaipur town, where the teacher, aged in his 40s, was alleged to have molested the girl during a private tuition session.

According to Assistant Inspector General of Police (Law & Order) Ananta Das, the mob assaulted the teacher on Thursday. He was then taken to RK Pur police station on the night of August 8, where a molestation complaint was filed against him. Advised by a doctor, he stayed at a local health center overnight. The teacher was later arrested and granted bail by a local court on Friday.

Das mentioned that the teacher fell ill after returning home and was admitted to GBP Hospital in Agartala, where he died on Saturday. The police have initiated an investigation, but no arrests have been made yet.

Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy and the local MLA have condemned the attack, with Roy stating, “Even if allegations are made, taking the law into one’s own hands is unacceptable. Chief Minister Manik Saha is informed about the teacher’s brutal death, and the police will take appropriate legal action against those responsible.”
