Guwahati: Assam is advancing its renewable energy goals with the launch of 38 new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations throughout the state. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made this announcement during a virtual event marking the inauguration of five new CNG stations in Guwahati.
The stations, developed by Purba Bharati Gas Private Limited—a collaboration between Assam Gas Company Limited, Oil India Limited, and Gail Gas Limited—are located in Ulubari, Sonapur, Lalmati, Kahilipara, and Azara. They are named COCO CNG Station, Ulubari; HP Sonapur, Sonapur; HKS Service Station, Lalmati; Bungrung Service Station, Kahilipara; and Ramani Service Station, Azara.
Sarma highlighted Assam’s ongoing commitment to reducing carbon emissions and shifting towards cleaner energy. “The opening of these stations is a significant milestone in our mission to make Guwahati greener. Our strategy to eliminate fossil fuels and adopt renewable energy is progressing, and these CNG stations are essential to this effort,” he said.
The new stations increase the total number of CNG facilities in Kamrup Metro and Kamrup District to seven. Additionally, eight more stations are nearing completion, and 15 are currently under construction. In the Barak Valley, three CNG stations are already operational, with two more in development.
Sarma also announced that Assam is on track to complete 3000 MW of solar power projects, further enhancing the state’s renewable energy capacity.
