New Delhi, Aug 14: The Naga Students’ Union, Delhi (NSUD) celebrated the 78th Naga Independence Day at Lodhi Colony, New Delhi, on Wednesday. The event highlighted the historical sacrifices and the ongoing struggle for Naga political aspirations.
In his welcome address, Eno Jepi Y Chisho, President of NSUD, reflected on the legacy of Naga forebears and emphasized the current generation’s role in advancing the Naga cause. He urged a renewed commitment to achieving political objectives while celebrating the resilience of the Naga people.
A keynote speech by Eno Hepuni Kayina, Sr. Pastor of Mao Baptist Church, drew comparisons between the dreams of ancestors and the challenges faced by the present generation. He likened their quest for freedom to that of Israel, encouraging the youth to strengthen their resolve for self-determination and quoting A.Z. Phizo: “We shall do all humanly possible so that we will not go down in shame.”
The program included a special prayer by Eno Caleb Mpamei, Pastor of Zeliangrong Christian Fellowship. Eli Ningreichon Tungshang shared a message from the Naga People’s Movement for Human Rights, and Dr. R Khongreiwo delivered a message from the Naga Scholars’ Association.
Eno Tomito Zhimomi, Deputy Speaker of NSUD, expressed concern about the absence of a political solution and called on the Government of India to expedite a resolution.
Under the chairmanship of Eno Sajimu Pochury, Vice President of NSUD, and with Eno Zanngasung Zimik, Assistant General Secretary of NSUD, as Secretary, the event began with a prayer led by Eno Jonathan Pao, Home Evangelist of Poumai Baptist Church and concluded with a prayer by Eno Kaboto Kinimi, Pastor of Sumi Christian Fellowship.
