Senapati Commemorates Patriots’ Day; Pays Tribute to Anglo-Manipur War Heroes

Senapati, Aug 13:     The Thangal Union, in collaboration with the United Naga Council (UNC), held a poignant Patriots’ Day commemoration at General Thangal Ecological Park in Mayangkhang. The event honored the bravery of Thangal General and Chirai Thangal.

The ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Awangbow Newmai, Hon’ble Minister of Water Resources, Relief & Disaster Management for the Government of Manipur, which was also attended by MLA Leishiyo Keishing, Eno. NG Lorho (President of UNC), Eno. Kuba Peter (President of the Naga Peoples Organisation (NPO), Senapati), Enoli. Ch. Priscilla Thiumai (President of the Naga Women’s Union (NWU), and Eno. A John (President of the Maram Thangal Council (MTC), along with leaders from various civil society organizations.

The day’s events began with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony, followed by a formal salute from local youths to honor the two brave patriots and their significant sacrifices.

In his address, Minister Awangbow Newmai expressed deep gratitude to the forefathers who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation. He noted that although August 13 is remembered as a dark day in the history of Manipur, it is commemorated with pride to honor the heroes who fought for freedom. He challenged attendees to reflect on their contributions to the nation and the legacy of patriotism passed down through generations.

MLA Leishiyo Keishing highlighted the current disunity among the people and called for unity, urging everyone to work together for the advancement and prosperity of the region. He emphasized the importance of solidarity in overcoming challenges and achieving common goals.

Patriots’ Day served as a meaningful reminder of Manipur’s historical legacy and the resilience of its people.
