Kokrajhar: NorthEast United FC dominated Odisha FC with a 5-1 win, securing their place in the quarterfinals of the 133rd Indian Oil Durand Cup. The Group-E match, played at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Stadium in Kokrajhar, Assam, saw NorthEast United FC top the group with a perfect nine points from three games.
Jithin MS was the standout player for the Highlanders, scoring twice within the first 20 minutes. Additional goals came from Guillermo Fernandez and Thoi Singh, while an own goal by Odisha FC’s Tankadhar Bag further extended NorthEast United FC’s lead. Odisha FC managed to score a lone goal through a remarkable long-range strike by Paogoumang Singson.
Despite Odisha FC having more possession in the first half, they were unable to capitalize, while NorthEast United FC took full advantage of their chances. This victory marks NorthEast United FC’s second straight appearance in the Durand Cup quarterfinals as they continue their quest for the title.
