Imphal, August 19: Keisham Meghachandra, President of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Monday, has called for clarification regarding a mistaken reference to a “Chin State of Manipur” in the draft of the North Eastern Council (NEC) Vision 2047 document. The draft, which has since been withdrawn, inaccurately included this term.
Meghachandra has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide a formal statement assuring that there are no plans to alter Manipur’s boundaries or disrupt its territorial integrity. He also seeks an explanation about how the term “Chin State of Manipur” appeared in the document and whether its inclusion was a misunderstanding.
The Congress leader expressed concern that such errors could potentially aggravate the existing tensions in Manipur, which has faced unrest for the past 15 months. Meghachandra has asked for transparency on whether there was any intention behind the draft’s content and called on Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Jyotiraditya Scindia, to address the issue.
Meghachandra has also urged Chief Minister N. Biren Singh to clarify the nature of the “factual error” mentioned in the draft and to ensure that any future documents accurately reflect Manipur’s status.
I think it’s not a mistake but intentional.
