Dhaka: The Anti-Corruption Committee (ACC) of Bangladesh is set to investigate 41 former ministers, state ministers, and lawmakers from the previous Awami League administration, which governed from 2009 to 2024, the Daily Star reported.
It also stated that the decision comes a day after Supreme Court lawyer M Sarwar Hossain filed a complaint, who accused these officials of accumulating illicit wealth.
The probe will target former ministers in various fields, including law, education, power, and commerce. This action is part of broader political and administrative reforms currently underway.
In related news, the Interim Government has removed all mayors from 12 city corporations and 1,873 local government officials, replacing them with administrators. Many of the removed mayors, who were affiliated with the Awami League, had not been performing their duties since the government’s transition.
Furthermore, the National Board of Revenue has ordered banks to lift the 17-year freeze on the accounts of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party.
With new government, hope Bangladesh will eliminate corruption.
