Imphal: A protest rally organized by the Manipur State Congress Committee (MPCC) was held today in front of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in Sangakpham, Imphal. Protesters called for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) investigation into what they describe as the “Modi-Adani Mega Scam.”
The demonstration was led by key Congress figures, including former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, MPCC President Keisham Meghachandra, and Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Gaikhangam, among others. They rallied with strong disapproval of the alleged scam and demanded a thorough probe.
Jairam Ramesh, a Congress leader, reinforced the call for a JPC, accusing the government of illegal over-invoicing of coal and power equipment, which he claims involved laundering Rs 20,000 crore back into Adani companies. Ramesh also alleged that the Modi administration was benefitting its close associates while imposing higher costs on Indian consumers through increased electricity and airport fees.
This rally in Imphal is part of a broader national campaign by the Congress party to hold the Modi government accountable and ensure an impartial investigation. The party’s criticism has intensified following a recent investigation by the Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), which raised further allegations against the Adani Group. The Congress has labeled the alleged scam as “the biggest in independent India” and questioned the credibility of the Securities and Exchange Board of India’s (SEBI) recent exoneration of the Adani Group.
Thorough investigation should be done. Rs 20,000 crore is a lot of money.
