Imphal: General Upendra Dwivedi, the Chief of Army Staff, arrived in Imphal on Friday for a crucial review of security measures. This is Dwivedi’s first visit to the state since taking over as COAS on June 30, 2024. General Dwivedi was transported by military helicopter to the headquarters of the Inspector General of Assam Rifles (IGAR-South) in Mantripukhri. Later, he met with Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh at the Chief Minister’s residence.
General Dwivedi, along with Lieutenant General R.C. Tiwari, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief; Lieutenant General Abhijit S. Pendharkar, General Officer Commanding 3 Corps; and Major General Ravroop Singh, Inspector General Assam Rifles (South), engaged in a discussion with Chief Minister Singh about pressing issues in the state.
“I deeply appreciate General Dwivedi’s visit to Manipur. Deliberated on critical issues concerning the current situation of our state. We reaffirmed the cooperation between the state government and the security forces in effectively responding to the challenges we face, maintain peace and harmony in the state,” posted CM Singh on his X account.
General Dwivedi’s visit focuses on assessing the army’s operational readiness in response to the ongoing unrest. He is set to return to Delhi on Saturday.
