Kohima: The Member Secretary of Political Affairs Committee (PAC), Minister KG Kenye, has convened a key meeting on August 28 to deliberate on the Indo-Naga political situation and the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization’s (ENPO) proposal for a Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT).
The meeting notice has called for attendance of two MPs, all 60 legislators of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly, and members of various political parties such as NDPP, BJP, NCP, NPP, LJP (RV), NPF, RPI (A), JD (U), and INC.
According to sources, the PAC session will concentrate on the ENPO’s demand for FNT, which has been a significant issue. Recently, ENPO’s new leadership, headed by President A Chingmak Chang, met with Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Friday. They presented their case for FNT and urged the state government to promptly respond to the Ministry of Home Affairs. However, the Chief Minister did not provide a timeline for when the State Government will give its comments.
Additionally, the ENPO delivered a representation to the Chief Minister, though specifics have not been revealed. The Ministry of Home Affairs Committee, chaired by AK Mishra, is still waiting for the Nagaland Government’s response to a draft paper submitted last year.
On August 13, 2024, the ENPO team, including former President R Tsapikiu Sangtam, met with the Ministry of Home Affairs Committee in Guwahati. This meeting focused on the FNT proposal and discussed future actions regarding the issue.
The outcome of the forthcoming PAC meeting is expected to significantly influence the ongoing discussions about the Indo-Naga political matters and the FNT request.
