Pakyong: Four Indian Army soldiers tragically died on Thursday after their vehicle skidded off the road and plunged 800 feet into a gorge along Sikkim’s Silk Route. The soldiers were traveling from Pedong in West Bengal to Zuluk in Sikkim when the accident occurred.
The incident happened near Vertical Veer, Dalopchand Dara, on the Rhenock Rongli state highway, a part of the historic Silk Route, according to officials.
The deceased have been identified as driver Pradeep Patel from Madhya Pradesh, craftsman W Peter from Manipur, Naik Gursev Singh from Haryana, and Subedar K Thangapandi from Tamil Nadu. All were part of a unit based in Binaguri, West Bengal.
The police said the cause of the accident was yet to be ascertained and the investigation was on. The bodies were handed over to the Army, the police added.
