The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has entered into a significant partnership with Airbus India Private Limited to enhance aviation and logistics education in Assam and the northeastern region. The agreement, finalized on Friday was marked by a signing ceremony at IIT Guwahati.
The deal was sealed by Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Director of IIT Guwahati, and Mr. Rémi Maillard, President and Managing Director of Airbus India. This collaboration supports the Government of India’s UDAAN Scheme, which aims to drive development and socio-economic progress across the country.
The initiative was officially launched in the presence of Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. Dr. Sarma highlighted the importance of skilled professionals in aviation and logistics, promising scholarships for students involved in these new programs.
A key component of the partnership is the creation of a Global Skilling Centre in Aviation and Logistics at IIT Guwahati. This center will address the need for skilled workers in the logistics sector and offer extensive training programs. The collaboration will cover various fields, including transportation, hospitality, and skilling.
Mr. Suraj Chettri, VP and Head of HR at Airbus India & South Asia, emphasized the need for large-scale, skilled human resources to support the growth of the aviation industry. Airbus will provide trainers, materials, and tools for initial short-term courses and will later support ‘Train the Trainer’ programs at IIT Guwahati.
The partnership aims to create long-term educational programs and will work closely with the Government of Assam and other northeastern states. This effort is expected to boost employment opportunities and improve service quality in the aviation and logistics sectors in the region.
