Imphal, Sept 7:   Congress MP Dr. Angomcha Bimol Akoijam on Saturday harshly criticized the Central Government’s management of the ongoing violence in Manipur, which has been escalating for over 16 months.

In a video statement, Dr. Akoijam urged the Government of India to assume full responsibility for the crisis, noting that despite the deployment of more than 60,000 central forces, the security measures have failed to protect civilians.

Dr. Akoijam denounced the use of advanced weaponry against civilians, suggesting it is a deliberate tactic by certain groups to destabilize Manipur’s territorial integrity. He accused the central government of failing to address the crisis due to a hidden political agenda, claiming that the state is effectively controlled by a “puppet regime.”

“The Government of India must hold responsibility for the death and destruction in the state of Manipur,” Dr. Akoijam said. He pointed out that the military presence has not improved the situation and called for an end to divisive communal politics. He also emphasized that Manipur deserves to be treated with respect and dignity as part of India, urging the government to take immediate steps to restore peace.

Dr. Akoijam’s remarks underscore the gravity of the situation in Manipur. It’s alarming that despite the heavy presence of central forces, the violence remains unresolved. The Central Government must acknowledge its responsibility and take decisive, meaningful steps to protect the people and restore peace in the region.
