New Delhi, Sept 10: Union Home Minister Amit Shah revealed several new measures to tackle cybercrime, including a plan to train 5,000 cyber commandos over the next five years. This announcement was made during the first foundation day of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C).
Shah introduced four major initiatives: the Cyber Fraud Mitigation Centre, Cyber Commandos, a Cyber Suspect Registry, and a Coordination Platform. These initiatives are aimed at improving India’s response to cyber threats by fostering better cooperation between law enforcement, financial institutions, and other relevant agencies.
The Cyber Fraud Mitigation Centre will unify efforts across different sectors, while the Cyber Suspect Registry will help track offenders at the state level. The Coordination Platform will enhance collaboration to tackle cyber threats more effectively.
Emphasizing the growing importance of digital security due to increased online transactions, Shah also noted the need for robust cybersecurity measures. To address these challenges, the government has set up joint teams in key locations such as Mewat, Jamtara, Guwahati, and Ahmedabad.
Additionally, Shah launched a nationwide awareness campaign to promote the ‘1930’ helpline for reporting cybercrimes. The campaign will use TV, radio, and cinema to spread the message and Shah called on state governments to support this initiative. He stressed that cybersecurity is a vital component of national security and crucial for India’s digital advancement.
