Typhoon Yagi, the most powerful storm to hit Asia this year, has left a trail of destruction across southern China and Southeast Asia, with hundreds of lives lost. In Vietnam, the death toll has risen to 254 as rescue teams recover bodies from areas devastated by landslides and flash floods.
In Hanoi, floodwaters from the overflowing Red River are starting to recede, though several neighborhoods remain submerged, making recovery efforts difficult.
After passing over China’s Hainan Island, Typhoon Yagi strengthened into a super typhoon and hit Vietnam on September 7, unleashing torrential rains that led to flash floods and landslides.
The typhoon’s effects have also been felt in northern Thailand, Laos, and northeastern Myanmar. Thailand has reported 10 deaths due to the severe flooding, while Myanmar’s military confirmed that at least 33 people have died in the country.
