Aizawl, Sept 16: Mizoram is grappling with a critical shortage of fuel and essential goods after numerous trucks became stranded on National Highway 306/06, which has fallen into disrepair. The highway, a key supply route for the state, has led to widespread fuel shortages at petrol stations and shortages of various items in grocery stores.
Starting September 17, the Mizoram Oil Tanker Driver Association (MOTDA) and the Petroleum Entrepreneurs’ and Transporters’ Union of Mizoram (PETUM) have announced a suspension of tanker operations on this highway. The organizations have cited the hazardous condition of the road, which has led to frequent tanker repairs and increased transportation costs for fuel.
With many tankers currently stuck on the highway, several petrol stations have been forced to close due to a lack of fuel, and grocery stores are reporting shortages of essential items. Some truckers have also declined to transport goods, citing damage during transport caused by the poor road conditions.
