New Delhi, Sept 17:   Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday attributed the turmoil in Manipur to infiltration from Myanmar and revealed that the government has begun constructing a fence along the Indo-Myanmar border to address this issue. He noted that 30 kilometers of the fence have been completed and announced plans to extend it across the entire 1,500-kilometer border.

Speaking at a press conference to mark 100 days of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s third term, Shah stated that measures have been taken to halt illegal crossings by terminating the previous agreement with Myanmar that allowed unrestricted movement. Now, entry into India will require a visa. The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has been deployed to key areas to enhance security.

Shah reported that aside from recent three-day violence, the situation in Manipur has been relatively calm over the past three months. He expressed confidence in restoring order and highlighted ongoing efforts to mediate between the Kuki and Meitei communities. “The violence is rooted in ethnic tensions, and a resolution can only be achieved through dialogue between the groups. We are actively engaging with both communities and have developed a roadmap to address the conflict,” he said.
