Imphal, Sept 17:   Manipur Education Minister Thounaojam Basantakumar Singh on Tuesday warned against student participation in unauthorized rallies and meetings, urging the public to keep educational institutions clear of such disruptions.

Speaking at a press briefing, Singh voiced concerns over individuals not associated with official student organizations who are allegedly persuading students to join unauthorized protests.

Singh addressed the issue of a questionable notification circulating on social media, which calls for a student conference at Dhanamanjuri University (DMU) on September 18. He criticized the notification for lacking official authentication, as it does not feature any letterhead or signature from an authoritative body and also warned that the government would take legal action against the event and reaffirmed that the meeting would not be supported or recognized by the government. DMUSU and six other student organizations have publicly denied any connection to the proposed gathering.

The minister also stressed that normal classes have resumed and emphasized that students should remain in classrooms during school hours. He highlighted that the education department aims for 229 class days this year, with 153 days already completed and 19 days lost to floods, natural disasters, and social unrest.

An investigation is in progress to identify and track the organizers of the unauthorized meeting. Singh appealed to legitimate student groups to support efforts to prevent disruptions in the education sector and urged parents to provide guidance to their children.
