Meghalaya, Sept 17: The Meghalaya government has introduced a new regulation requiring individuals and organizations sharing news on social media platforms within the state to register with the Directorate of Information & Public Relations. This policy, part of the Meghalaya Public Communication Policy 2024, is designed to promote responsible online reporting and tackle misinformation.
In a notification issued by the Directorate of Information & Public Relations, Meghalaya, the directive stated that all individuals and organizations who is not accredited or listed with the Directorate of Information & Public Relations (DIPR) must submit their details to the department. Registration can be done either by visiting the DIPR office in person or by email.
The notification further warns that non-compliance with this rule will be seen as a breach of the policy and may lead to legal consequences. Officials clarified that the purpose of the policy is to prevent the spread of content that could harm state interests, public order, or morality.
