Tousem, Sept 17: The Tousem Headquarters Students’ Union (THSU) issued a statement on Tuesday expressing their dissatisfaction with the Manipur government for its failure to address their longstanding grievances.
According to the press release, the Tousem Headquarters Students’ Union (THSU) together with the Zeme Students’ Organisation Manipur (ZSOM), had submitted a joint memorandum to Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on August 16, 2024. The memorandum included a 30-day ultimatum demanding the relocation of the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) office back to Tousem Headquarters from Tamenglong District Headquarters and highlighted the continued government neglect of the Tousem subdivision.
The press release noted that, with the government failing to respond within the stipulated time, the student unions are now left with no choice but to launch protests. They expressed frustration over the prolonged disregard of Tousem’s needs and development and warned that the state government would be held fully responsible for any consequences arising from their upcoming agitation.
The unions urged the state government to take swift action to address their demands and prevent further unrest. They reiterated that the people of Tousem can no longer tolerate the government’s inaction and called for the immediate resolution of their demands.
