Jiribam, Sept 18: Suspected militants launched an attack on Mongbung Meitei village in Manipur’s Jiribam district on Tuesday evening, September 17, sparking a brief exchange of fire. According to the police, the militants fired several rounds using sophisticated weapons around 7:00 PM, prompting retaliation from local volunteers in the village. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident.
Security forces were immediately deployed to the area to defuse the situation. The firing ceased by 8:00 PM, an officer informed. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have called on local residents to cooperate with the ongoing operations.
In related developments, security forces seized a cache of weapons and ammunition during search operations at Chanung and C Zoulen village in Imphal East district on Monday, September 16. The items confiscated include a locally made single-barrel gun, an SLR magazine, and live ammunition, according to a police statement.
