Yangon, Sept 20: The death toll from Myanmar’s devastating floods has climbed to 293, with 89 people still reported missing, according to state media. The flooding, which has impacted numerous townships, including Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory, was triggered by Typhoon Yagi and a deep depression in the Bay of Bengal, reports The Mirror, a government-run newspaper.
As of Thursday morning, approximately 161,592 individuals from 47,019 households have been displaced, finding shelter in 425 relief centers. The floods have also damaged 766,586 acres of crops and resulted in the death of 129,150 livestock, further compounding the crisis.
Local authorities, along with rescue organizations and community members, are working to clear the flood-hit areas and provide essential support, including healthcare, food, and other necessities for those affected by the disaster. The relief efforts continue as the full extent of the damage is being assessed.
