Six Former NDFB Members Released from Bhutanese Prison, Repatriated to Assam

Chirang, Sept 21:   Six ex-members of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), imprisoned in Bhutan, were released on Friday night and returned to Assam. The Royal Bhutan Police handed the former inmates over to the General Secretary of the United Forum of Ex-NDFB at Gelephu, in the presence of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Chief Executive Member, Pramod Boro.

These individuals had been serving sentences since either 2012 or 2016, and include:

– Jiban Basumatary (Chirang district), jailed since June 3, 2016

– Sonaram Mosahary (Kokrajhar district), jailed since December 6, 2012

– Sanam Mongar (Kokrajhar district), jailed since 2012

– Birmal Basumatary (Chirang district), jailed since June 3, 2016

– Dillip Basumatary (Chirang district), jailed since June 3, 2016

– Fakhan Narzary (Chirang district), jailed since June 3, 2016

According to the Royal Bhutan Police, all six were in good health and were turned over for further formalities and assistance in reintegrating into their families and society.
