Following a roundtable discussion with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New York on Sunday, Google CEO Sundar Pichai underscored Modi’s commitment to transforming India through the Digital India initiative. Pichai highlighted that Modi is encouraging companies to manufacture and design products locally, noting that Google’s Pixel phones are now produced in India.
During the meeting, Modi called on tech leaders to explore AI applications in sectors like healthcare and education to benefit the Indian people. Pichai remarked, “He is really thinking about how AI can transform India in a way that benefits the people of India.”
Pichai also pointed out Modi’s focus on improving India’s infrastructure, including data centers and energy resources, to support this digital shift. Google is dedicated to investing in AI in India and has formed partnerships with various government bodies, including the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and ministries related to agriculture and health.
“We have several programs in collaboration with the Central and State governments and look forward to doing more in India,” Pichai added. He reiterated that Modi has a clear vision for AI to ensure it serves the people of India and emphasized the Prime Minister’s call for companies to increase their contributions in this crucial area.
