Imphal, Sept 24:   Babloo Loitongbam, Executive Director of Human Rights Alert (HRA) on Tuesday issued a statement addressing recent threats against his family and false allegations made by Meitei Leepun (ML). These threats followed a press conference held by ML on September 22, where they accused Loitongbam of financial links with Kuki militant groups and misrepresented his work with a foreign individual.

Loitongbam reported that on September 23, around fifty people came to his home, threatening his family and warning of dire consequences if he continued to speak publicly. Videos of the press conference and the threat visit have gone viral on social media.

Loitongbam also clarified misinformation about Ms. Mya Kyay Mon, a Norwegian of Burmese-Buddhist heritage, who was referred to HRA as a distressed prisoner. He stated that Mon’s sole issue was overstaying her visa and refuted claims of any involvement in fundraising abroad, noting that she remains under judicial custody in Imphal.
