New Delhi, Sept 24: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh today launched the 41st Indian Coast Guard Commanders’ Conference, highlighting its crucial role in facilitating strategic discussions on maritime security amid changing geopolitical dynamics.
During his speech, Singh recognized the Indian Coast Guard as the nation’s primary protector, underscoring its responsibility for safeguarding India’s vast coastline and overseeing the Exclusive Economic Zone. He commended the Coast Guard’s efforts to tackle illegal activities such as terrorism and trafficking and praised its vital role in disaster response.
The Minister reiterated the government’s dedication to modernizing the Armed Forces and the Coast Guard with homegrown technology, announcing the construction of 31 new ships by Indian shipyards as part of the Aatmanirbharta initiative. The three-day conference is set to focus on enhancing operational capabilities and addressing key maritime security challenges.
