New Delhi, Sept 24: India has secured the third spot in the Asia Power Index 2024, published by the Sydney-based Lowy Institute, ranking just behind China and Japan. This marks a significant step for India as it continues to rise as a global power.
Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri welcomed the development, attributing India’s growth to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. “India’s ascent is no coincidence. It is the direct result of PM Modi’s assertive diplomatic strategies and his bold vision to redefine India’s global standing,” Puri remarked, emphasizing that without Modi’s leadership, India wouldn’t be poised on the edge of superpower status.
The Lowy Institute’s report highlights India’s growing influence, especially in Economic Capability, Diplomatic Activity, and Future Resources. While China’s power is stabilizing, India is expanding its influence across the region.
Puri praised Modi’s diplomatic efforts, stating, “PM Modi’s work has put India back on the world stage, transforming the country’s nonalignment policy into a strategic tool for global diplomacy.”
He also noted that while China faces challenges like an ageing population and economic slowdown, India, under Modi’s leadership, is well-positioned to capitalize on its resources and demographic advantage. “India is now poised to become the new kingmaker of Asia,” Puri added.
The minister also criticized past Congress governments, arguing that their lack of direction had hindered India’s progress. He noted that under Modi’s leadership, India is now on track to become the world’s third-largest economy by 2027, as projected by the IMF.
