Itanagar, Sept 25:  A team from the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS) has scaled an unnamed and previously unclimbed peak measuring 6,383 meters (20,942 feet) in the Gorichen range of the Arunachal Pradesh Himalayas, situated in the Tawang-West Kameng region. The peak was one of the region’s most technically difficult and unexplored summits.

After overcoming challenges like treacherous ice walls, deep crevasses, and a 2-kilometer glacier, the team commemorated the moment by naming the peak “Tsangyang Gyatso Peak,” in honor of the 6th Dalai Lama, His Holiness Rigzen Tsangyang Gyatso. This name was chosen to acknowledge his wisdom and significant contributions to the Monpa community.

Led by Colonel Ranveer Singh Jamwal, the expedition was one of the most challenging ever taken on by NIMAS. Despite the extreme conditions and unpredictable weather, the team’s determination and collaborative effort led them to complete the historic ascent.
