Imphal, Sept 26: Manipur Security Adviser Kuldiep Singh and Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Singh have issued a joint statement on Wednesday dismissing reports of 900 trained Kuki militants infiltrating from Myanmar to target the Meitei community.
The officials confirmed that no credible evidence supports these claims, easing concerns about a potential attack. “The input was verified from different quarters, but it could not be substantiated on ground. There is no basis currently to believe in any such input,” it stated.
The initial intelligence alert, shared by Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s office on September 16, had prompted heightened security across the state. However, after thorough investigations, authorities confirmed that there is no substantial basis for the reports. “There is no reason to currently believe in any such input,” the statement clarified.
The Chief Minister’s Office also released a clarification, noting that the alert was based on intelligence regarding the movement of armed groups. The information was shared with security forces to allow for further investigation. After a detailed review, officials stated that “It is now ascertained that the possibility of any such misadventure by armed groups is remote”, reassuring the public that there is no need for concern.
