Shillong, Sept 28: The cow protection group, led by Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati Ji Maharaj, has announced plans to approach the Supreme Court after being denied permission to fly from Agartala to Shillong on Saturday. The group’s chartered flight was refused landing at Shillong Airport due to concerns over law and order in Meghalaya, based on the state government’s request.
According to an official source, the decision was made due to the potential law and order issues, prompting both the state administration and Shillong Airport authorities to block the flight’s departure from Agartala.
As a result, the group canceled its visit, which aimed to promote a ban on cow slaughter. Meanwhile, pressure groups had gathered outside Shillong Airport in protest of the group’s arrival.
Raja Saksham Singh Yogi, the group’s spokesperson, expressed disappointment and said, “We are heading back to Guwahati from Agartala but will soon take legal action against the airport authorities. Our legal team is preparing to file a case against both Shillong and Agartala airport officials.” He clarified that the group did not intend to disrupt peace but would petition the Supreme Court regarding the issue.
The Meghalaya government hon Friday requested the Airport Authority of India (AAI) to deny the chartered flight’s landing at Umroi Airport. The decision followed a high-level meeting led by Chief Secretary DP Wahlang. Additionally, Section 163 of the BNSS was imposed by East Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi district administrations, prohibiting any cow protection rallies.
The Central Puja Committee (CPC) has distanced itself from the group, clarifying that it does not support their planned rally to declare the cow as the mother of the nation in Shillong on October 2.
