Gangtok, Sept 28: Continuous heavy rainfall in Sikkim’s Soreng District has led to multiple landslides in the Daramdin area, damaging several houses and disrupting daily life. The landslides have also blocked roads, creating dangerous conditions and hampering movement in the region.
NH 10, Sikkim’s crucial highway, has been obstructed in several locations due to the landslides. Local authorities are actively working to clear debris and restore normalcy, while also providing support to affected residents and assessing the full extent of the damage.
L B Das, Advisor to the Land Revenue & Disaster Management Department, has advised citizens to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel in landslide-prone areas. He assured the public of government support but emphasized the need for public cooperation to prevent further incidents.
With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting more rainfall, authorities are concerned about additional landslides. Both the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been put on alert, prepared to respond to any emergencies.
