Imphal, Sept 28: Security forces in Manipur on Friday have recovered a significant cache of weapons and ammunition during search operations in the vulnerable hill and valley districts. The coordinated operations were carried out by teams from the Manipur Police, Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Assam Rifles (AR) to maintain peace in the region.
In the Phainom Hill Range of Thoubal District, security forces discovered 4 HE-36 hand grenades, 2 improvised mortar shells (Pumpi shells), 3 detonators, 29 empty ammunition cases, a stun grenade, a stinger grenade, a tear smoke grenade, and 2 radio sets with chargers. These items are believed to have been stored for potential attacks or violent activities.
In Loiching Ridge, Kangpokpi District, the joint forces recovered 2 .303 bolt-action rifles, a 9mm pistol with a magazine, 20 live ammunition rounds, 4 HE-36 hand grenades, 2 detonators, a tube launcher, a rubber bullet, 2 SMK grenades, a long-range walkie-talkie set, a country-made mortar bomb without a cartridge, a long-range improvised mortar shell, a long-range improvised mortar, abbulletproof jacket, and 6 miscellaneous items. These dangerous materials indicate the possibility of future large-scale attacks, with insurgents potentially preparing for more violent confrontations.
Meanwhile, in Gothol Village, Churachandpur District, the security forces recovered 2 improvised mortars (Pumpis) in their search efforts. This operation was conducted by teams from the Manipur Police, BSF, and CRPF as part of ongoing efforts to curb insurgent activities.
