IMPHAL, Oct 2: On the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh urged for political dialogue during the National Cleanliness Day/Swachh Bharat Diwas observed at Gandhi Memorial Hall today.
Leading the tribute, Chief Minister Singh, along with ministers, Members of Parliament, MLAs, and senior officials from civil and police departments, paid floral respects at Gandhi’s statue to honor the Father of the Nation.
CM Biren highlighted the importance of cleanliness and called on citizens to actively engage in cleanliness efforts. Singh also encouraged the public to adopt non-violence in line with Gandhi’s teachings, emphasizing that peaceful and political approaches are vital for resolving the state’s challenges. “On this day, let us embrace the principles of ahimsa and commit to political discussions to address the ongoing crisis,” he stated.
In addressing the current unrest, N. Biren Singh appealed to all communities in Manipur to come together for meaningful political discussions aimed at restoring peace, stressing the need for unity and cooperation in tackling the state’s issues.
Regarding the ongoing efforts to rescue two youths reportedly abducted by militants in Kangpokpi district on September 27, the Chief Minister reassured the public: “We are making every effort to secure their release, and we are confident in our efforts.” One of the abducted youths has already been rescued by security forces and returned to the police, while operations are underway to rescue the remaining two.
The Chief Minister had previously instructed the Director General of Police (DGP) to prioritize the safe recovery of the abducted individuals, with security forces actively working in the affected areas. N. Biren Singh’s call for peace and political dialogue reflects his administration’s dedication to addressing the state’s crisis through non-violent means.
Additionally, the Congress party organized commemorative events at Congress Bhawan to honor the occasion, reinforcing the significance of Gandhi’s legacy.
