Senapati, Oct 2: The Senapati District Administration in collaboration with District Social Welfare Office Senapati, 7 Sisters Foundation and Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India(ALIMCO) observed the International Day of older Persons at the the Multipurpose Hall, opposite to DC Complex, with a special program focused on the distribution of aids and assisted living devices to senior citizens and disabled individuals.
In her speech, Smt. Mamoni Doley, the event’s chief guest, expressed her gratitude to the senior citizens in attendance and emphasized the importance of recognizing their contributions to society. She also lauded the District Social Welfare Office (DSWO) for their efforts in organizing the program and ensuring its success.
She called on the Social Welfare Department to include more senior citizens aged 70 and above in the beneficiaries list for the health coverage approved by the Union Cabinet.
The event included the distribution of vital aids such as hearing aids, wheelchairs, and walking sticks by ALIMCO. Disabled individuals were also among the recipients, highlighting the inclusive nature of the program. Smt. Doley personally distributed the items, demonstrating the administration’s dedication to improving the quality of life for the district’s elderly and disabled population.
Guest of Honors Shri. OK Sang, President of the Senior Citizen Forum, and Shri. Saveio Khole, Vice President of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), delivered speeches commending the district’s efforts. They stressed the importance of ongoing support for older persons and praised the initiative for its forward-thinking approach.
The program commenced with an opening prayer by Rev. Ng. Lorho and a welcome address by Miss. Khullak Tungran Dangsawa from the DSWO. Smt. Doley’s speech focused on the government’s role in providing support for vulnerable populations, particularly the elderly and disabled.
The aid distribution, a highlight of the event, was followed by a vote of thanks from ALIMCO, India. The program concluded with a closing prayer by Smt. Athui, reinforcing the community’s collective commitment to caring for its elders.
