IMPHAL, Oct 6: AC Rinsing, a rising filmmaker from Ringui Village in Ukhrul District, Manipur, has been chosen to represent the state at the renowned Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) 2024 in South Korea. Rinsing’s debut film, SAMKHOK, has been nominated by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to participate in this prestigious global event.
SAMKHOK delves into the rich cultural traditions of the Tangkhul Nagas before their encounter with Christianity, focusing specifically on the ‘Maran Kasa’ (Feast of Merits) ritual. The narrative centers on a clan chief’s family preparing for this significant event, exploring themes of tragedy, loss, vengeance, and the deep bonds of family. The film also reflects on humanity’s connection with nature and the indigenous ways of life, providing a vivid portrait of the Tangkhul Naga culture.
The Busan International Film Festival, running from October 2 to 11, is one of Asia’s most prestigious film festivals, spotlighting filmmakers from around the world.
