Chennai, Oct 8: The Indian Air Force (IAF) celebrated its 92nd Raising Day for the first time at the Tambaram Air Force Station near Chennai today. Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan hoisted the flag to mark the occasion, while Chief of Air Staff A.P. Singh inspected the parade and presented awards and citations for outstanding performances by various Air Force units over the past year.
In his address, Chief of Air Staff A.P. Singh underscored the necessity of a strong and capable air force in response to global security challenges and ongoing conflicts. He stressed that the IAF must be prepared to address any situation threatening national interests, highlighting the importance of adopting advanced technology and innovative strategies in today’s multi-domain landscape.
Singh referred to this year’s theme, “Bharatiya Vayu Sena – Saksham, Sashakt, and Atma Nirbhar,” stating that it reflects the aspirations of the air force, which has developed with improved technology and increased efficiency. He reminisced about the past year’s accomplishments, declaring it a notable time for the IAF, showcasing its skills on various fronts.
He commended the resilience of the IAF, pointing out the successful execution of the Tarang Shakthi exercise—the largest multi-lateral exercise on Indian soil in 61 years, involving more than 30 nations. He also noted the IAF’s quick response to humanitarian emergencies, such as natural disasters and international relief operations, and praised the Agniveers women’s team for their exemplary performances.
The celebrations included a special parade and aerial displays by the Suriya Kiran and Tarang teams. The event was attended by former defence chiefs, senior officials from the Army, Navy, and Air Force, as well as veterans, marking a significant milestone in the IAF’s history.
