SENAPATI, Oct 28: The Eastern Flank of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN) has strongly condemned the Union Government of India’s recent decision to abolish the 56-year-old Free Movement Regime (FMR) agreement along the Indo-Myanmar border. The Naga Army described this move as a serious threat to the Naga community and their land.
In a statement issued on Monday, they emphasized that the FMR historically recognized the bonds of Naga brotherhood and criticized the government’s abrupt decision to scrap it and initiate border fencing. They stated, “This is a devious design to divide the Naga brothers forever, and it is therefore simply unacceptable.”
The Naga Army further asserted that the Indo-Burma treaty of 1952 was signed without the consent of the Naga people, declaring, “Let it be known that we do not need any consent from any Government entities to move freely in our ancestral land.” They reaffirmed their belief that it is their inalienable right to live as one united people.
The Eastern Flank of the Naga Army considers the government’s actions a serious threat to the Naga people and their territory, especially while Indo-Naga peace talks are ongoing. “We will never remain as a mute spectator. We will go all out against the grievous ploy of the Union Government,” it stated.
In their message to the public, the Eastern Flank made it clear that no Naga citizen should cooperate with the proposed fencing initiative, urging contractors to refrain from bidding on the project and wage earners not to participate in the construction.
The organization warns that anyone who disregards these guidelines does so at their own risk, underscoring their commitment to resist what they perceive as a harmful agenda by the Union Government.
