SENAPATI, Nov 4: In a remarkable achievement, the Senapati District Badminton Association (SDBA) claimed the title of Overall Champion at the 1st Naga Hill Districts Badminton Tournament, held at Longmai in Noney District Headquarters from 29th October to 2nd November 2024. Competing against talented players from multiple districts, SDBA showcased exceptional skill and determination, securing a total of 14 gold and 8 silver medals across various categories.
The tournament featured a wide range of events, including Under-15 Boys and Girls, Under-19 Boys and Girls, Men’s and Women’s Open, and Veteran divisions, which were further divided into age groups starting from 35+ to 65+ in both singles and doubles categories. The SDBA’s strong showing placed them well ahead of other competitors, with Tamenglong District following with 8 gold and 4 silver, Chandel with 2 gold and 4 silver, Ukhrul achieving 2 silver, and Noney, the host team, also finishing with 2 silver medals.
Among the highlights of the tournament, Mr. Pfoki Liruna from SDBA emerged victorious in the highly competitive Men’s Open Singles category, marking one of the most challenging matches of the event. Additionally, Pfoki Liruna, paired with Mr. Elow Kaje, captured the Men’s Open Doubles title, adding further accolades to SDBA’s success.
This inaugural tournament, a landmark event for badminton in the region, provided a platform for athletes of all ages to display their talent and fostered unity among the Naga hill districts. SDBA’s triumph underscores the district’s commitment to sports and its role in nurturing exceptional badminton players.
