UKHRUL, Nov 5: The Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) and Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) have expressed profound sorrow and issued strong condemnation over the attempted murder of two Poumai Naga individuals, allegedly by members of Arambai Tenggol, a militant group based in the Imphal Valley of Manipur. The victims, V. Hrangao Blesson Poumai, son of Veino from Kodom Khullen Village, and Dalou Poumai, son of Hriini from Liyai Khullen, were reportedly abducted on October 31 while returning from a cattle purchase in Thoubal. They endured brutal torture, were left nearly dead, and had their money stolen by the assailants.
In its statement, TKS urged the Government of Manipur to impose strict penalties on those responsible for the attack and to ensure the victims receive appropriate compensation for their suffering. The organization also called on all communities to act responsibly to prevent further inter-community conflicts during this difficult period.
TKS extended its solidarity to the victims and the Poumai community, affirming its readiness to support those affected by this violence. Amid the ongoing ethnic strife between the Meitei and Kuki communities, TKS highlighted the Naga community’s considerable restraint and neutral position. However, they warned that this neutrality should not be misinterpreted as weakness.
The organization cautioned that if such violent acts against their people continue, they may be forced to reassess their stance and take necessary actions to protect their community. Emphasizing their commitment to peace, TKS stated that they are prepared to respond to any further provocations to safeguard the dignity and security of the Naga people.
In a parallel condemnation, the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) also denounced the brutal treatment of Blesson and Dalou, emphasizing that the Tangkhul Naga community is outraged by this act of barbarity. They demanded an unqualified apology from the assailants and called on state authorities to take immediate action against the culprits. TNL further stressed the need for the victims to receive adequate compensation for the incalculable losses they endured.
