IMPHAL, Nov 18: The Naga People’s Front (NPF) Manipur Unit has strongly condemned the killing of six women and children in Jiribam, describing it as an “inhumane and barbaric act” unfit for a modern society.
Addressing a press conference today, NPF Manipur State Unit leader Awangbow Newmai expressed deep grief over the incident. He stated, “The kidnapping and murder of innocent women and children in Jiribam is deeply condemnable. The government made every possible effort to rescue the victims, but unfortunately, they were found dead. Such incidents have no place in society.”
Newmai also denounced the recent acts of vandalism targeting the residences of MLAs and ministers by an irate mob, urging citizens to refrain from resorting to violence. “Taking the law into one’s hands will not bring progress; it will only tarnish the state’s prestige,” he said. He emphasized the importance of peaceful dialogue as the only way to achieve lasting peace in Manipur.
When questioned about the NPF’s stance on the BJP-led state government amidst the ongoing crisis, Newmai reiterated the party’s commitment to the alliance. “NPF is one of the oldest allies of the BJP. At this critical juncture, withdrawal of support does not arise. We will continue to stand with the BJP government and work jointly to find solutions to the crisis,” he clarified.
The NPF’s statement comes amidst heightened tensions in Manipur following the tragic killings in Jiribam and a surge in protests across the state. With its call for peace and commitment to dialogue, the party has emphasized the need for collective efforts to restore normalcy and rebuild trust in the region.
