AGARTALA, Nov 19: Former champions Manipur secured a spot in the final round of the Santosh Trophy 2024 with an impressive 2-0 victory over hosts Tripura on Tuesday.
Senapati lad LT Lowly scored both goals, breaking the deadlock in the 78th minute before adding a second in extra time at the Umakanta Mini Stadium.
The 2002–03 champions completed a perfect Group D campaign, winning all three of their matches with a goal difference of +8 (10 goals scored, 2 conceded). Tripura finished second in the group with four points, followed by Mizoram (3) and winless Sikkim.
In the day’s opening match, Mizoram thrashed Sikkim 7-0, with F Lallawmkima netting a brace. Michael Lalbiaksanga, HK Lalhruaitluanga, Laltluangliana, Lalthankima, and Lalthanpuia also got on the scoresheet for the 2013-14 champions.
