IMPHAL, Nov 21: In response to escalating violence in Manipur, eight companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) arrived in the state capital, Imphal, on Wednesday. This deployment follows the arrival of 11 CAPF companies in the state just a day earlier.
The newly deployed forces include four companies each from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Border Security Force (BSF). These units are expected to be stationed in the fringe and vulnerable areas of the violence-hit state. Among the CRPF companies, one has been identified as part of the Mahila Battalion, reflecting efforts to address gender-specific concerns in the conflict zones.
The arrival of additional troops is part of a larger deployment plan announced by the Central Government, which recently committed to sending 50 new CAPF companies to Manipur to address the deteriorating security situation.
The violence in Manipur, which has been ongoing for months, saw a sharp rise over the past week, prompting these reinforcements.
