IMPHAL, Nov 21: The central government on Wednesday has approved ₹104.66 crore to the Manipur government for the project “Providing Super-Speciality and Assured Speciality Health Care in Remote and Hill Districts (Infrastructure & Equipment) in Manipur” under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North East Region (PM-DevINE).
In a letter addressed to Manipur Chief Secretary, the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) announced the Administrative and Financial Sanction (AFS) of ₹10,466.11 lakh for the ambitious healthcare project.
This initiative is expected to significantly improve healthcare access in Manipur’s remote and hill districts, including Senapati, Ukhrul, Chandel, Jiribam, and Tamenglong, by providing super-speciality services and assured specialty care. It aligns with the broader goal of PM-DevINE to catalyze development in the Northeast region.
In response to it, Chief Minister N Biren Singh thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Health Minister JP Nadda, and DoNER Minister J M Scindia for their support in strengthening the state’s healthcare infrastructure.
Taking to X, the CM post stated, “For the first time, hill districts like Chandel, Ukhrul, Jiribam, Senapati, and Tamenglong will have access to advanced medical facilities like CT Scans, MRI, ICU services, and super-specialty care—bringing healthcare closer to home. Not to mention, the Churachandpur Medical College is already operational, transforming healthcare in the region.”
