GUWAHATI, Nov 21: The North East Cane and Bamboo Development Council (NECBDC), operating under the North Eastern Council, Ministry of DoNER, has partnered with Amazon India to strengthen market linkages for artisans, self-help groups (SHGs), and clusters specializing in bamboo and cane products across the North Eastern Region (NER). This collaboration aims to empower local artisans by providing them access to global markets and modern e-commerce platforms.
As part of this initiative, Amazon India conducted an exposure visit where its team engaged in a series of events to explore the craftsmanship and unique products from the region. A mini-exhibition was organized by local artisans and stakeholders, showcasing a diverse range of bamboo and cane items, highlighting the region’s exceptional cultural heritage. The Amazon team assessed these products for potential inclusion on its global platform, signaling a promising opportunity for local artisans.
During a workshop, artisans received a comprehensive presentation on leveraging global e-commerce platforms like Amazon. Topics included compliance requirements, inventory management, advertising strategies, and the significance of certifications such as GST registration. This session aimed to educate artisans on meeting international market standards, equipping them with tools to thrive in the global marketplace.
Gaurav Bhatnagar, Director of Sales at Amazon India, emphasized the cultural and economic value of the region’s products, stating, “The North East’s bamboo and cane products are a testament to the region’s rich cultural heritage and unparalleled craftsmanship. Through our Karigar Program, we are committed to providing these artisans with access to global markets, ensuring their art finds the recognition it deserves. The initiative extends beyond workshops and exhibitions, with the Amazon team scheduled to visit the Kakopathar Bamboo Cluster in Tinsukia, Assam. This visit will provide firsthand insights into the production processes of the artisans, fostering deeper engagement and understanding.
NECBDC Managing Director M.C.
