AGARTALA, Dec 5: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to visit Tripura on December 19 to participate in the North Eastern Council (NEC) plenary sessions scheduled for December 20 and 21 in Agartala. Initially planned for August and September, the sessions were postponed due to widespread flooding in the region.
According to Tripura government sources, Shah will be joined by Jyotiraditya Scindia, Minister of State for the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER). The sessions will witness the attendance of Chief Ministers and Chief Secretaries from all seven northeastern states, making it a significant gathering for regional planning and collaboration.
Shah’s itinerary includes arriving in Agartala on the evening of December 19, where he is expected to meet with local BJP leaders to discuss party strategies and regional development initiatives. On December 20, the Union Home Minister will actively participate in the NEC sessions and is likely to leave the state later that evening.
The Tripura government has heightened security measures and made extensive preparations to ensure the smooth execution of the plenary sessions, which are critical for reviewing the progress of development projects and policies in the northeastern states.
The NEC, established in 1971, plays a pivotal role in the economic and social development of the northeastern region, making these sessions essential for fostering inter-state cooperation and advancing regional priorities.
