IMPHAL, Dec 6: Manipur’s Social Welfare Minister Heikham Dingo on Friday said that all documents pertaining to the disappearance of 56-year-old Laishram Kamalbabu Singh, who reportedly went missing from the Leimakhong Military Station on November 25, have been forwarded to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), as well as to the offices of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a program, Minister Dingo expressed deep concern over the incident and called for accountability. “We have sent all the necessary documents to the PMO, and the offices of the defence minister and home minister. We are waiting for an answer. The Army authorities should be held responsible for the incident as he went missing from such a secured location. It is really unfortunate,” he said.
The case was formally brought to light when Kamalbabu’s younger brother, Laishram Brajabanshi Singh, filed a writ petition on November 27, alleging that militants had kidnapped his brother. Following this, protests erupted across Manipur, with locals demanding the authorities ensure Kamalbabu’s safe return.
Among the protesters, Kamalbabu’s wife, Akoijam Ningol Laishram Ongbi Belarani, made a heartfelt public appeal for her husband’s return. The demonstrations have intensified pressure on the authorities to resolve the case swiftly.
The disappearance of Kamalbabu from such a heavily secured location has raised serious questions about safety and accountability, with the state government, civil society groups, and locals demanding immediate action to resolve the case and bring him back safely.
