AIZAWL, Dec 6: Mizoram is all set to host the prestigious six-day “International Paragliding Accuracy Championship & Air Sport Festival” at Bawngchawm in Serchhip district, with exciting activities scheduled to take place from December 9 to 14. The event is being organized by the Mizoram Tourism Department.
The championship has already attracted a global interest, with 79 pilots from 14 countries registering with the Fédération Internationale Aéronautique (FAI). Eight participants have already arrived in Serchhip, and the festival promises a range of thrilling activities, including paragliding tandem flights for the public, hot air balloon rides, and a grand concert on December 14.
Tandem paragliding, which is accessible to individuals of almost any age as long as they can walk or jog a short distance, will allow the public to experience the excitement of flying. Additionally, over 15 stalls offering a variety of local food, exquisite handloom products, and fresh produce will be available for festivalgoers.
One of the highlights of the festival will be the mega fish angling event, “Nghakuai Chiah Runpui,” held at Zawlpui, near the designated landing site for paragliders.
Serchhip District Deputy Commissioner Paul L Khuma will attend the event as the chief guest, while Mizoram Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma will grace the closing ceremony on December 14. The state has previously hosted several international paragliding events, furthering its commitment to promoting tourism and nurturing young talents in the sport.
